What is Golove3?

GoLove3 is a short-handed way to remember our mission - the four commands of Jesus. These four commands measure our maturity in Christ. They shape our character to be more like Jesus on a daily basis. The four commands are to:

• Go and make disciples. (Great Commission) Matthew 28:19-20
• Love God with all we are. (Greatest Command) Deuteronomy 6:5
• Love those in need. (Second Greatest Command) Leviticus 19:18
• Love each other. (New Command) Matthew 13:34

These four commands are the measuring stick of our mission given by God. There are scores of Christians walking around in a daze, with lots of biblical knowledge. Yet they have no sense of mission or direction. We don't get to choose our mission. God has already done that for us. GoLove3 is our mission. However, we can choose the expression of our mission. Who will we disciple? What person or group will we reach out to? We have choices within God's mission for us, but we will never find our true purpose beyond GoLove3. GoLove3 is not only the 4 commands, but it is also the strategy itself. Jesus had His closest 3 disciples - Peter, James and John. He also had his 12, and even His 70 or so disciples, but His focus was always His 3. We also are to find 3 people to focus on mutual accountability, challenging each other to grow deeper in our maturity. You can attend church and Bible studies all you like, but if you are not being challenged to align your life to God's mission for you, you will stagnate. You will get busy and be distracted by all this world demands.

Every sermon I've ever heard on Hebrews 10:24-25 ("not forsaking meeting together") said these verses show that God commands church attendance. But this is not about attending a passive meeting of worship. This passage says we are to challenge each other - to hold each other accountable - to practice love, and to do good works. That kind of accountability doesn't happen during Sunday morning church. Endless worship sessions did not turn the world upside down in the first century. They took time to challenge each other to be more like Jesus - bearing more fruit, shining His light, loving each other, caring for the poor - THIS is how the world was turned upside down. "They'll know you're my disciples by your love for one another." (John 13:35) 

To be clear, this accountability is not other people lording over you. It is not legalism. It is volunteering yourself to be held accountable through other friends, who desire the same challenge. It is increasingly difficult to find time to meet for a few hours per week for accountability. While it's great to meet face to face, it's not practical on a daily basis. The GoLove3 app allows you to touch base with your sponsor, and 3 friends, in less than 5 minutes per day. Beyond that, everyone can choose to occasionally meet face to face, if desired. But the potency of accountability is in the small, daily interaction. Knowing that someone cares, and will be checking on you is a key part of your transformation journey.
